TUSCALOOSA, AL, March 25 – Representatives from Shelton State Community College, West Alabama Works, and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama announced two important workforce initiatives during a press conference held at Benjamin Barnes YMCA on Friday.

College leaders have announced a new Manufacturing Boot Camp that will be offered beginning April 13. The 40-hour program, split into two increments, will provide participants with the entry-level, basic training many employers have said is vital for success. Boot Camp participants will have an opportunity to receive the National Career Readiness

Workforce Development at Southside Virginia Community College will hold a job fair on Wednesday, March 30, from 2-4:30 p.m. at the colleges Alberta Campus at 109 Campus Drive in Alberta. Attendees are asked to bring photo identification, resumes and a WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate. Admission is free and open to anyone seeking a job.

A Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Southside Virginia Education Center in Emporia. The Fair is free and open to the public. Dress to impress, bring résumés, a photo ID, and copy of WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate. The WorkKeys certificate will get you in the door at 1:45 p.m.

Barry County has officially been designated as a Certified Work Ready Community. The designation, considered an important national milestone in demonstrating local workforce readiness, was announced in a special ceremony held Friday at the Monett Chamber of Commerce.

Both the Madison and Garrard County Adult Education programs ranked in the top 25 programs in the state for meeting or exceeding National Career Ready Certification (NCRC) goals
